What is of use to a child interested in reading is explicit instruction in how the written language works - how it represents the sounds of speech, how it is produced with tools like pencils and chalk, how it signifies words and ideas.

Helpful framework for organising an instructional sequence for reading -
Stage:
0 - prereading. Discover world of print.
1 - 1st stage of reading and is characterised by recognition of alphabetic principle
2 - expansion and consolidation of (1)
3 - beginning of higher order learning and thinking skill acquisition
4 & 5 involve higher types of analytical and synthetic reasoning

It is imperative to consolidate and automate (2) before going on to provide explicit instruction in higher-order reading routines.

Spalding phonograms are corrected by modern linguistic standards. Letters represent minimal speech units (phonemes) not blends. After learning phonograms, instruction in spelling begins. After about 150 words, reading begins.

Headed for breky at Thomson. Left at 1030 to meet Flub while Laogong stayed on to add on lights for his van.

Started to snap away the moment we reach High Society. Hee.

Ordered food. Server had to remind me not to over-order the yummy desserts! Haha.

Met up with Laogong again. While was coaching, I went to visit the track team! Happy! Great day! And it barely started :)

Headed down to GT to celebrate MIL's birthday. Always had good experience at GT. Enjoyed the dinner when we celebrated JR's birthday too.

Was expecting yummy food but sadly this visit sort of made us decide that we're not going back. The wait was terrible. The service by non-Singaporeans not up to standard. (Disclaimer: Don't bother commenting about my view if GT is your favourite restaurant. Go ahead and enjoy yourself. It's a fact that the people who served us were non-Singaporeans and They happened to have terrible service. Don't bother commenting that I'm bias because I stated facts and well yes, I've a right to be bias or right to state facts :))

Waited very long for the dishes and we cancelled two of them. Time to source for a new place to eat.

Got a call from JR saying that a call was made back home to recall for Laogong. I bbm-ed Laogong but I guess calls and SMS and emails should be sent to him already. At 2 plus, Laogong said he might be done at 5plus. Cancelled manicure and pedicure in case Laogong is back early. Pleasantly so. He was back at 4plus :)

Since Laogong cancelled his 2 to 9 pm lessons and postponed them to March. Was delighted about the rare chance to go for a weekend date :) Like I twitted earlier in the day, people chong clubs on weekends but we chong tuition classes.

Wanted to go all the way to Bugis for steamboat but along the way, opposite Novena, we spotted a steamboat place. Signalled right and made a u-turn. Not bad. Less crowded.

Since it was barely 7 pm, we decided to catch a show!

The inspirational Tao Kae Noi :) Nice show. Enjoyed the two hour long show. Great weekend :) Love it.

Shall end the night with my good read and Yakult!

Gosh!
The air con compressor broke down AGAIN on a hot Sunday.
Come to think of it, it's always on a Sunday when my classes are back to back!
Argh!
Was extremely upset and I must have spam-ed Laogong's blackberry with at least twenty messages.
I headed to NTUC to get yet another fan and to buy lunch for Laogong.
At the pool, he must have felt bad seeing my frustrated and heated up face - literally heated up because it was so hot!
He gave me money and asked me to go buy a portable air con.
At least for now, there is cool air blowing in the centre ...

From the reunion lunch with extended Toh 杜 Family on Jan 15 to the friendship reunion dinner with Flub on Jan 21, then the Toh 杜 immediate family reunion on Jan 21 (yes, two in a day :p) followed by the Toh 卓 immediate family reunion on Jan 22 ...

It was finally Day One of CNY ...

Laogong sort of had a culture shock, I mean who won't when there are 85 members in a family.

Not all managed to meet up, but well, a substantial number of us did :)

I miss visiting ah mah of course ...

Visited her at the shrine on CNY Eve and as expected,

no matter how much mental preparation I had,

I could not get pass myself and started crying again.

Visited Laogong's side later in the day on Day One, morning of Day Two and the visiting went on ...

Day Two morning, visited ah gong with in-laws.

Had lunch at OCC thanks to ah yi ...

Went to visit Auntie Carol and family and came back to Semb after that.

More visitors at home.

Summary of CNY 2012:

1. I miss ah mah.

2. I love the visiting, still.

3. Everyone is telling me about having a Water Dragon baby.

Trust me, I want it as badly as you all want me to have it.

However, I'm past the stage where I get stressed up and stuff. God has his plans

Hopefully with everyone's blessings and repeated questioning, I will have a HEALTHY baby very soon.

We are definitely not Andy Lau and Zhu Li Qian, trust us, with bloggers like us, we will really announce it - Maybe do a TV Ad or POP magazine ad to announce.

(Was irritated when I saw on a friend's FB about giving birth on CNY Eve and this complete irritant posted a comment - "gratz my fren! Sadly its not a dragon baby:(") Lucky fella, I would have deleted and de-friend such a fiend.

Back to the pool and the centre tomorrow :)

Weekend Wonder & Merry Monday

After a terrible (way to end the ) night (weekend),
I had a good sleep and woke up fresh to a good new Monday!

After a long day (without lunch break) of lessons on Saturday, I can't wait to have dinner!
Met Laura @ Novena for dinner.
So nice of her to prepare all the food for me and to take all the food for me.

Laogong came over to meet us (while we were shopping in Cold Storage) after his even longer day.

On Sunday, after all our lessons, we headed to ichiban sushi for dinner.

I love sashimi!
Today, to start off our week right, the mini MOE (Ministry of Educators) headed to TWG for lunch.Being such popular educators, look at what the two are doing while I waited for them to order!

Hopefully Laura enjoyed her first TWG experience!(Though I think the TWF treatment at AMK is better :p)

We had our first massive reunion lunch at our place today ...

Not all 85 of us turned but definitely a lot of them turned up ...

I love family gathering but at the same time,

Met bb for Breky while we waited for Kyan's school dismissal. Nice life. I like :p

At about 1110, like all other anxious parents, we went to the school gate and then proceeded to the classroom. I haven't seen my precious for awhile!

Oh ya! Met Harvin there too! Her daughter us there too. Caught up a bit :)

My cutie precious called me Godma loud and clear today :') Hee. Totally made my day. Like how when Ash can greet me on her own nowadays :) Hee. Totally priceless!

Well, I had a great morning and a great noon!

After breky and sending Laogong to his classes,

I popped in to Taka (usual shopping venue when his class is @ Shang),

got some CNY goodies for mummy and mil

and got lunch for him ...

Came back home, slacked a bit and napped a lot ...

Got up, prepared for lessons ...

Going to change now and go to the centre for my classes :)

Life is Wonderful!

Meeting Baby tomorrow for breky.

Two straight days of breky outside and I'm a bit sick of it and lazy to eat out ...
Decided to just laze at home ...
Prepared Laogong's favourite tea in his favourite cup and favourite hashbrown to go along with while he reads the papers.
Phew. Simple enough for me.
I shall now enjoy my tea, catch-up with my friends, read my book and watch TLC ...

It was our first off day but Laogong had some impromptu classes in the morning.
Went to Bugis then slacked @ Ion before meeting William in the evening to buy some stuff.
Laogong and I went to AMK for dinner and I finally got my vouchers!!! :p

First Day of 2012 - Waking up in SG

Was feeling sick last night.
Had a fever in fact.
Laogong tucked me in to bed at 10pm.
Slept all the way till 9am this morning.
Thankful that the fever disappeared.
Still, decided to go to the doctor and get some antibiotics.
On the way in the car, while Laogong was driving,
I whatsapp papa to whine. (haha, I think that made me feel better).
The radio played some CNY songs and I thought of Ah Mah.
Lots of little things in life always remind me of Ah Mah ...

Was telling Laogong the list of things we can do because our mornings are so free!
(He is used to being free in the morning and was totally amused by me)
Of the 30 years of my life ...
I had to wake up early for 6 years of primary education, 4 years of secondary education, 2 years of tertiary education, 4 years of uni education and finally, 7.5 years of work.
It will take me a bit to adjust, but I'm sure it will be easy.

For now, I will enjoy my Passion - Teaching (which is no long simply just a job), enjoy my Vocation - Lobang Queen and also enjoy my Hobby - Sourcing and Selling Things (haha) ...

Woke up early and headed to the airport.
Left earlier so that we can send the luggage to be wrapped, to do some shopping and to have breakfast.
Reached SG after noon and now, off to classes we go.
First day at the centre and first day at the pool.
Huat ah!

As people are starting their first work day or kids starting their first school day of 2012, Laogong and I walked down the quiet road to have our breakfast.
We love this fishball noodles @ Chinatown but chanced upon this one @ Pratunam.
Gosh, even better!
Laogong even had additional bowls!
The place is also much cleaner than other places!
My throat is kind of sore and had to get medicine from the pharmacy.
After shopping for so many days, today was a super slow day.
Didn't shop that much.
Chilled @ Black Canyon <3
Chilled @ Food Court.
Chilld @ McCafe.
JR joined us for a tiny bit.
Heading for usual massage @ usual joint by usual massage fellows.
Life ...
It will definitely get better.
Anyway, I hope my JO5 and BU5 are managing well in school!

Mixed feeling.
Being in the system for so many years, the day / night before school is always jittery.
The only difference this time round is, I am not going back to school.
I miss my friends.
I miss my kids.
Yet, I'm happy to start a new career, a new role and a new life.
Blogging as Laogong is on the computer doing some research.
We are both tired from playing with 4Fun.
The night before a new academic year is always full of anticipation about the new class and the new year.
I hope my JO5 and my BU5 will have a great 2012.
I also hope my friends in the system will have a great year.
Do your best. Do not be afraid to stand strong against all those who are out to get you!

Day 4 already!
Luckily the weather is not as warm today.
No new tan lines I hope.
Met JR to get the GPS.
Had dinner nearby massage place.
Laogong having his Thai massage now.
His shoulders are aching carrying our 30kg of loot.
Ya. I didn't carry any @ all.
He didn't allow me to :)

Haha. Laogong said I took a nerdy picture of him so I allowed him to take one of mine too.
That made him happy.
It's not midnight @ Bangkok yet.
We've a couple of minutes more.
We went to JJ Mkt to find Kung today.
The sun was terrible.
Please. Bangkok is totally not cold or chilly.
So darn hot.
I haven't had bikini tan lines for a while.
Got them today.
Didn't feel well after 2pm.
Well, I survived.
Laogong loved his buys as usual today.
I redecorated my iphone.
Sorry Norin. Your bumper was changed off today.
Will change back when I change iphone's look again.
Tomorrow Mr. And Mrs. Shannon Toh will be joining us!

Had breky and headed down to Chinatown to find our favourite auntie supplier.
Extremely crowded.
Too crowded for comfort that we left once we settled our deal.
Headed to Paragon (MY favourite) on a tuk tuk.
Bad congestion.
45 minutes on it and as usual.
When still, I dozed off.
Some labels were having sale, Balenciaga had the most.
Still nothing caught my eyes (phew).
Anyway, labels / brands are more expensive in BKK.
A pair of slippers is about $30 more ...
Walked back to Pantip for our ever favourite A&W.
Walked back to favourite massage place.
Headed back to hotel.
Laogong is on the computer now.
Yet another day in Bangkok :D
New Year's Eve tomorrow.
Jan's big day too.
