5 Jun: Race Day #113desaru2016 + Ollie is 18 (months young)!

Laogong woke up at 5am and I woke up at 5.30am this morning. He had to prepare to go check in his bike and get all ready. I got Ollie in the Tula and she continued sleeping till about 7am, just before the flag-off. Seeing Laogong in a couple of runs and triathlons, I find that Laogong did relatively well for his swim and bike but alas, what hindered his PB was due to the fact that the organiser didn't prepare enough water! Totally OMG, by the time the triathletes started running, they didn't have enough water already. 21km with barely enough water. Horrifying! Anyway, that aside, congratulations to my (half)ironman! (Laogong said that only when he completes his full ironman in October, then he is really an iron man! 3.8km swim. 180km bike. 42km run.) You completed a triathlon for Ollie on her 18th month!
Disclaimer: Don't worry. Ollie posed for the picture. She didn't finish the fries! Of course not!

While waiting for laogong, we do what we do best!
Selfie!

My (half) ironman rested for 1 hour and then headed to the pool with Ollie!
Look at how they enjoyed themselves!

4 June: Pre-race #113desaru2016

We took the weekend off from lessons and drove 1 hour up to Desaru for the triathlon. Always love road trips and this is a road trip cum triathlon with the trusty bike rack. Ollie slept through the drive. Laogong went to literally test water and we let Ollie had her first swim in the sea too! She loves it! Other than the organiser not informing about the change in location to collect race pack (from one end of the resort to the other end), all was great. The resort was relatively nice. The carbo-loading dinner was good (families eat together with the triathletes!). We all slept early for laogong's race the next day.

Follow-Papa-To-Work-Day + Some Things About Homeschooling Ollie

#grateful #thankful
Blessed we are to have such a flexible lifestyle and schedule.
We can dedicate a large proportion of time to Ollie.
With Ollie's BFF starting school this week, and before
we reschedule our weekly BFFs play day,
Ollie followed Papa to work today.
Two sessions of one-to-one swim lessons and
two sessions of group swim lessons.
Just like last time, when I tagged along, I always
enjoy a good chat with the parents and nowadays,
Ollie sometimes play with the younger siblings
who are not swimming.
In between lessons, we had time to visit Gardens
by the Bay, had lunch and napped at Bedok.
Very fun-filled day.

Last two lessons were back at one of our SG condos,
and I wasn't prepared for Ollie to have some
water play. I was expecting her to play at the
playground but well, our water baby always chooses
the pool over the playground.

With so much time spent with Ollie today, and
having time 24/7 to witness her growth and life,
I thought even more about her kind of education.
Have been reading up (even before delivering
Ollie) on homeschooling and actually, majority of people
who know us know we will be homeschooling Ollie.
I'm not going to share this reading or that research
here but well, just generally, more of how I handle
and will handle people's reaction.
I'm usually more qualified academically than people
who asked about our decision.
I've usually read more than people who asked,
especially on the socialisation aspect.
Well, just like my previous sharing on FB about our
Ollie Only decision, I will just briefly say something.
(Sometimes, have to say such things to make myself clear,
not that I am angry, but well, just to put things across!)
Going to a school doesn't make one child more friendly or
sociable than Ollie. Going to a school doesn't make
one child better academically  than Ollie. A child
may not be wealthier than her because of a better
PSLE / O'Levels / A'Levels / etc qualification. A child
going to school may not be a more kind-hearted
or street smart person than Ollie.
Well, no judging and no comparing.
All parents want the best for their child.
And, hey, I'm the mother he's the father,
we make the call!
We simply want Ollie to be happy.
And well, the vision for homeschooling Ollie is
that she will grow up happy and kind and street smart.
The mission for now: PLAY.

You Know A Shopaholic When You See One

Ollie totally refused to let me carry the paper bag.
She insisted on carrying it!
She is absolutely proud of her shopping loot.
Again, refused to let me carry the shopping basket!
Had tea/coffee while waiting to collect things,
look at how lovey-dovey the Papa is with his
precious daughter.

Random Musings

So, we had dinner with 老公的教练 (aka 师公) last night and he suggested to let Ollie wear the goggles at home occasionally to let her get used to it. #trainingofachampion
She didn't really fancy it (yet) and removed it in 2 minutes. Maybe also because she was feeling uncomfortable from her cough and flu (again! Sigh.) Not to worry, the champion is still active and playing (whole day long).
In at attempt to be healthier (minus the youtiao), I cooked breakfast and lunch for us ...
Only to ...

End up buying the super red burger for dinner!
So much for trying to be healthy!

Well, at least I tried!
Get well soon, Ollie!

ME TIME!!!

Very thankful for the ME TIME today!
I had a complete (almost) off day from
mama-duties!
Unpacking the wipes, diaper, sanitiser and cream.

Lunch at Sakuraya Fish Mart.

Dinner at Waterfront Copthorne.

I missed you all!
Thank you, laogong!

Came home and put Ollie to bed.
Laogong fell asleep as well.
They had so much fun I'm sure.
Haha.

Happy Day!

Your Happiness Matters Most

After settling the situation over the weekend, we finally rested
and is able to have the peace of mind today. Back home and
devoted all our time to Ollie. As I scrolled through the photos,
I look at Ollie, I look at her sleeping on the bed, she is growing
up way too fast! Slow down, please!

We visited the Eco Spring Village and spent about ten minutes
there. Thanks to the generous developer, haha, we had good
photos taken at the place. Previously at the windmills
exhibition too.

Ollie watched her first movie and shared our large popcorn
bucket. It all started with the papa feeding her, and well, it
progressed on to her helping herself to it. Even when she latched
for awhile in the middle of the movie, she was trying to reach
out for the popcorn with her hand!

She ordered Shrimp Wanton Noodles. I'm sure she is missing
her BFF in HK and she wants to eat the same kind of food!

The papa swam with her in the evening before she heads off
to the playground to play with the kids.

Dear Olympia, grow up happily and healthily please.
(good things seem to begin with the letter H, haha)
Jokes aside, life is too short to be unhappy.
We try our best to give you the best.
Live to the best that you can, to be happy and healthy.
Happiness and Health are priceless.

Shoo, Fever, Shoo!

Battling fever is not fun. On Thursday morning, 3am, Ollie suddenly woke up to latch. I felt her body and it was warm, no, it was hot! I took her temperature and it was 38.8! She latched many times between 3am to 8am. Decided to feed her paracetamol and luckily all was well then.

All was well through the day but there was a fever spike at 8pm again. I'm the high-needs-kan-chong-spider mama. I was so worried. At 10pm when I took the temperature again, it was 37.7. We decided not to feed paracetamol again. (We're in the camp of letting me know the body fight the fever on its own, unless it goes beyond 38. Fever after all is a good indication of the immune system functioning to fight off infection. Disclaimer: NOT DISCUSSING ANYTHING pertaining to this topic. No judging.) Took Ollie's temperature through the night till about 3am this morning and I concussed, the temperature was between (vaguely remember) 37.3 to 37.7/8. This morning, the temperature range went below 37! Yeah! We did it! Ollie did it!

Still, the kan-chong-spider me don't dare to let loose. Will still monitor through the day and tonight. I hope it is nothing but just because the molars are all coming out. Truly a molar-explosion! Fever always scares me, especially when Ollie had dengue fever before! Praying hard that all will fine and there is no fever spike again tonight.

Since it's a stay-home-to-rest (play) kind of day, we shall still play dress-up!
I'm so tired but thankful that Laogong took over Ollie for an hour earlier on to let me have a massage.

Fantastic Friday!

Great day we had! Early morning, then again, not that early, I knew I saw the time 1047h when I opened my eyes. May from HOPE gave me several missed calls. I quickly called her back and she arrived shortly to take Pill away for vaccination and adoption. Thanks for staying with us for the past week, Pill. We're sorry we cannot give you a forever home. Several issues we looked into before we made our decision. We hope you had a good week with us and Charcoal. May you be loved in your new home.

1. We headed out for breakfast and shopping. Love book sales! Left Harris with basketful of books!

2. Headed out to meet the Devilz and at that point, Ollie finally succumbed to her first proper nap of the day.

3. Had dinner with the Devilz and Grace at Marche. Always love our monthly catching up!

4. Drove back at 2200h to fetch Laogong. And Ollie decided that she wants to watch a particular video. How to change the video when I'm driving! And well, this was what happened. Major meltdown just because eof a video.

5. Finally, finally. Everyone in the house is asleep! Me time! And I guess several sleepless nights.  (I don't have the stamina to finish it in one seating!) I put back the B&J after the photo. Decided to be sane and made a hot cup of green tea instead (Haha, boring!)

Thankful for a great day and can't wait for another great day ahead!
